Awe-Inspiring Sedona Beauty© Silver Spur Tours
Like no other place in the world. The landscape diversity is breathtaking. Massive red rock monoliths. Towering canyon walls. Lushly forested Oak Creek Canyon ranked among America’s most scenic drives. The settings are both elegant and rustic. Ancient Indian ruins indicate that ancient civilizations have lived here for about 8 thousand years. Located in the Verde Valley, Sedona is but 27 miles south of Flagstaff, Arizona.
Jerome Ghost Town is also nearby. It was once a wild-west mining town that became a ghost town when mines were depleted. Artisans rediscovered Jerome in the 1960s. Remnants of old buildings still stand on the cliff-side winding streets. Today it is active yet historical. Strange and bazaar. Streets are lined with art galleries, antique shops, old hotels, restaurants and wine bars.
Montezuma Castle is also nearby. These ancient cliff dwellings were built in the 1200s on the sides of cliffs by the Sinagua Indians. They mysteriously disappeared in about 1425 AD. They left these ruins as a gift to the world. Many historians believe the ancient Sinagua Indians were the ancestors of Indian Tribes that still consider the Sedona area as sacred.
