Old Town Scottsdale

Enjoy a beautiful drive through the heart of Old Town Scottsdale where you can still see the charm from it’s old western days, optional 1 hour shopping if you wish.

Apache Trail

Journey back in time as you travel up to the beginning of the Apache Trail to Tortilla Flats for lunch. This trail was created in 1903 as a way to deliver materials to Roosevelt Dam when it was under construction. On this beautiful drive you will see Superstition Mountain, the believed location of the Lost Dutchman Mine which is said to be rich with gold.  Along this scenic drive we will also stop at the ghost town of Goldfield, Canyon Lake, and town of Tortilla Flat. Over time the Apache Trail has been traveled by many people including President Theodore Roosevelt who stated “the Apache Trail and surrounding area combines the grandeur of the Alps, the glory of the Rockies, the magnificence of the Grand Canyon and then adds an indefinable something that none of the others have.”

Goldfield Ghost Town

In 1892 Goldfield was built as a place for miners who came after a gold strike.  At the time the own was thriving and looked like it would grow to be bigger the Mesa but after 5 years the nearby mine dried up and the town slowly died.  Now it is a family friendly destination providing a glimpse into the past.

Canyon Lake

One of four lakes created by damming the Salt River, Canyon Lake is the smallest covering 950 acres.  Here you can enjoy and take in beautiful views or explore the secluded inner waterways on an optional Dolly Steamboat ride.

Tortilla Flat

Established as a stage coach stop on the way to Roosevelt Dam in 1904, Tortilla Flat was a camping ground for prospectors who were looking for gold in the Superstition Mountains.  In 1984 a fire destroyed most of the community; however, when it was rebuilt the owners tried to replicate the history to keep “the old west” intact. Now Tortilla Flat is known as Arizona’s smallest communities to have a post office and voters precinct, with a current recorded population of 6.  Here you may want to grab a bite to eat or try the prickly pear ice cream.

Hohokam Indian Ruins

Located near Downtown Phoenix, at the Pueblo Grand Museum you will go through the ruins of a 1,500 year old Hohokam village. With full scale reproductions of Hohokam pit-houses and adobe houses that you can walk through you can get a good idea of how the Indians lived.

Wrigley Mansion

Step forward in time as we go to the Wrigley Mansion, once home the winter home to the chewing-gum magnet William Wrigley Jr. This Spanish Colonial home was built between 1929 and 1931 and has over 16,000 square feet, with 24 rooms and 12 bathrooms.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West

Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1937 to be the location of his winter home, studio, and architectural campus.  Here you can experience the architectural brilliance of Frank Lloyd Wright and his ability to create a harmony between a building and its environment. Optional***
