Stay At Your Choice of Hotels in Flagstaff

An exclusive by Silver Spur Tours. Embark from your lodging point in Phoenix or Scottsdale. A complete tour of Sedona, Jerome and Montezuma Castle. A trip up scenic Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff. Check-in at at your hotel about 4:00 PM and enjoy the evening  in Flagstaff. Checkout the next morning at about 7:00 AM and head to the Grand Canyon South Rim before returning back to the Valley of the Sun.

FIRST DAY: Sedona, Jerome and Montezuma Castle

Cathedral Rock, Sedona, AZBoard our Mercedes-Built Sprinter Touring van in either Phoenix or Scottsdale for a scenic 2.5 hour drive to Sedona. The Sedona area is magical. Elegant, rustic with the aura of ancient Native American history. You will experience where peace of mind and tranquility could have originated. A day absorbing memories beyond imagination. Montezuma Castle. The ancient Sinagua Indians built these cliff dwellings into the sides of canyon walls. Mysteriously, the Indians abandoned these “apartment-style” ruins in about 1425 AD. More about Montezuma Castle. Jerome Ghost Town. Once known as the most wicked place in the wild west. Gunslingers, saloons, gambling halls and bawdy houses. Jerome died when the mines depleted. It became a ghost town holding ghostly secrets of years’ past. Re-discovered by hippies that brought it back to life and now refuse to let the 60s escape.Experience the strange and bazaar. More about Jerome Ghost Town. Sedona Arizona. red rock country. Land of the Secret Canyon where ancient civilizations left many prehistoric ruins and artifacts as evidence of existence. See all of the most popular scenic attractions including the edges of Boynton Canyon, Airport Mesa, Cathedral Rock, and Chapel of the Holy Cross. The tour continues with a 2,000 foot ascent up Oak Creek Canyon with hair-pin turns on winding road to the top of the Mogollon Rim. A scenic drive through Ponderosa Pines to Flagstaff, Arizona.

SECOND DAY: Grand Canyon South Rim

Wake early, have breakfast and checkout. Leave at about 8:00 AM. Catch great views of San Francisco Peaks. Stop at Little Colorado River Gorge on the Navajo Indian Reservation. Barter with the Navajo artisans for authentic handcrafted jewelry and crafts.

Desert View Watch Tower Enter at East-End of Grand Canyon. The Desert View entrance has less traffic. You get into the Canyon quicker meaning more time to enjoy its splendor. The east-end arguably has the greatest views.

Stop at the Desert View Watchtower. Built in 1932. A replica of a prehistoric Indian tower. Climb to the top of the tower and experience the incredible views across to Comanche Point and the Colorado River far below.

Navajo Point. Astounding views from the highest point at the Grand Canyon South Rim at 7,500 feet. See great views of the Colorado River’s Big Bend.

Moran Point. Proceeding to Grand Canyon Village along Desert View Drive, we stop at Moran Point for more photo-taking opportunities.

Grand View and Yavapai Point. Depending upon timing and weather, we may choose one or both at the group’s discretion. BothSouth Rim Grand Canyonc Mike Koopsen feature amazing views and Yavapai Point includes a geological museum.

Grand Canyon Village. This is the heart of the South Rim and the old historic district. Have lunch (not included) at several places. Walk the Rim Trail. Sit on the cliff walls and savor unlimited views. Visit Kolb Studio which which sets right on the cliff’s edge. Watch the mules descend or arrive at the Bright Angel Trail.

Visit Hopi House and you may be lucky to see Indian Dancers perform in native costume. You may see the Grand Canyon Train arrive or depart. Watch closely for the endangered California Condors, the largest bird in America with a wingspan up to 9.5 feet.

Exit at the West Main Entrance. We take a different route back to Flagstaff and return drive back to Phoenix or Scottsdale. Kickback, watch a DVD of the history of the Grand Canyon and relive your memories of an eventful day. At the groups discretion we stop along the way for quick breaks.
